But LORD, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation. [Lamentations 5.19]
If God remains the same, we must necessarily understand what He was from the beginning in order to understand what He is now.
The Bible contains numerous descriptions of God. From beginning to end, the Bible reveals God's character. Everything that takes place in the Bible, every story, every interaction, every bit of it reveals God.
Jesus even more clearly revealed God (if there was any misunderstanding left by the written Word). In fact, Jesus' life clears up any incorrect notions about God. In fact, Jesus indicated that He was what all the written Word was about:
“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! [John 5.39]
Everything said about God (by Himself or others) is true today. It will be true tomorrow and forever.
A phrase Israel used repeatedly when describing God was this: "The LORD is good, His faithful love endures forever." Why, do you suppose, this phrase is repeated so much in the Bible? It is because it best describes God in the fullness of Who He Is.
Sadly though, many remain confused about God and His character. Many more doubt the attributes of God as revealed in the Bible. Modern science and technology thumb their noses at even the notion of God. Increasingly less attention is given today to the Bible as "knowledge" abounds and the sciences of man vie for man's allegiance and trust...
But LORD, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation. [Lamentations 5.19]
As worldly knowledge increases, proportionately, man's ignorance of God keeps pace. Those who would know God find themselves at odds with the sciences and knowledge of man. Indeed, the follower of God even now stands out as ignorant and downright stupid. The knowledge of man has made sure to exalt itself and allege 'trust in God' as foolishness. The knowledge of man will believe only itself.
In the world's encounter with Covid-19, the ire of the 'knowledge of man' against the 'knowledge of God' became highly publicized with phrases like, "I believe the science!" and "trust the science!" All who declared trust in God were ridiculed.
Idolatry?
Does this surprise God? No. But I am afraid it comes as a surprise to many believers in God. Sadly, most are ill-prepared to stand in faith. In fact, I myself am currently engaged in 'trusting God' (as best I know how) for circumstances in my life that the world's sciences assure me may only be remedied by their application. As more realize my intentions to "trust only God," I fully expect to be labeled as foolish, ignorant, and downright stupid. May God be true and every man a liar...
Consider the overwhelming argument of the world and its knowledge against the knowledge of God! Who is right? The answer is found in who prevails! If science and knowledge eventually displace God, then the Bible is a lie and God was never Who He presented Himself to be. If this is so, Jesus was only a brilliant, albeit motivational, illusionist. Right?
How could we be so beholding to science today if Christians REALLY believed God? I will sit in church this very day with other "believers" who trust the science far more than they trust God. It should not be so.
What we know about God should begin from "the beginning:" When He spoke, creation occurred - He did not require science but rather created it... Has He changed?????
What do YOU believe?
Father, forgive me for my unbelief! Forgive me for doubting You. Forgive me for holding the knowledge of You in my mind, but allowing myself to accept that somehow that You've changed - as my knowledge of the world has increased. Forgive me for standing idly and contently by in powerlessness while the world defies You and Your power. May my testimony and life, like Christ my example, reveal Who You Are and Who prevails!
But LORD, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation. [Lamentations 5.19]
