Climate Change

The LORD is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies! The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. At his command the oceans dry up, and the rivers disappear. The lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wither. In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence. [Nahum 1.2-6]

How God feels about those who refuse to trust in Him alone has never changed. The only difference today is that in our secular society, we have a scientific explanation that masks the true meaning of events known in more ancient times to be the vengeance of God manifest in adverse weather and climate.

What if our climate concerns today were viewed in terms of moral failure (like the Bible points out)?

How might a return to faith in, and faithfulness to, God affect our climate?

To ignore the moral aspect of adverse climatic events is likened to ignoring the Golden Rule - both have to do with God and the Bible.

Who's to say that if mankind returned to God's standard of goodness that this action wouldn't affect man's insatiable appetite for "more" thus affecting the very commerce and overall busyness of the world that leads to the abuse of resources?

It is right that mankind should be alarmed by climate change. However, the solution will not be one of responsibility but one of repentance. No amount of resource responsibility can correct the underlying problem of moral reprobacy. The solution is repentance to God for ignoring Him as God.

Father, may the truth of Your Word prevail in this day when human reasoning is screaming its loudest.
