The War of Knowledge

The LORD’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land. [Psalm 12.6-8]

A lying generation praises evil. Whatever could that mean?

At this time in my life and journey, this passage speaks to a deep-seated belief about human reasoning versus what God says. It speaks to me today about the war between human knowledge and the knowledge of God (what God says - His promises which are true).

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. [2 Corinthians 10.3-5]

Is not the knowledge of man praised all across the earth today? Does not the knowledge of man strut about arrogantly declaring superiority over the Word of God and His people?

It is time that God's people wage the war before us against the evil of human reasoning that exalts itself against the knowledge of God! It is time we use God's mighty weapons...

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. [Ephesians 6.10-18]

Even though Paul addressed our weaponry in plural pieces of God's armor, in fact, the armor we have been given is the WORD OF GOD. Every individual piece Paul mentions is directly tied to God's Word.

So, if we are to wage an effective war on the evil of human reasoning (the knowledge of man), then it will only be with the knowledge of God (only obtained from His Holy Word). This is a mighty battle and it is fought in the heavenly realm.

The knowledge of man (human reasoning) lies. It is arrogant and David describes it as evil. How do we know this is true? Because David started the passage in Psalm 12 by saying he LORD's promises are true establishing the contrast (see "therefore" underlined below) for the rest of what followed: the arrogant lies of this generation that are praised by those who identify with it.

Look again:

The LORD’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land. [Psalm 12.6-8]

Father, may we be found embracing the Truth of Your Word in direct warfare against the arrogant and deceptive evil of human reasoning. So be it!
