Starting Is Good - Finishing Is Better

So King Solomon finished all his work on the Temple of the LORD. Then he brought all the gifts his father, David, had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and the various articles—and he stored them in the treasuries of the LORD’s Temple. [1 Kings 7.51]

That must have felt good.

For all the confusion in modern life of what to do and when to do it, there must have been great satisfaction for Solomon to complete the work his father David commissioned him to do.

I believe, at the time of this completion, David had already passed. There was likely a bittersweet emotion for Solomon in that as well - a generational fulfilment of sorts.

The Apostle Paul spoke of completion like this:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. [2 Timothy 4.7]

Yes, there is something satisfying about finishing. Starting is good, but finishing is better. The spiritual implications of this are limitless.

Father, help me to finish well... but mostly, help me just to finish.
