Taste And See

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! [Psalm 34.8]

"Tasting" to see that the LORD is good is an action of will. It is not automatic. In all but unusual circumstances, for us to taste something, we must consciously make the effort to do so.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

How then do we "taste and see" God's goodness? We put His Word in our mouths and we eat it on purpose! We make His Word our diet. Only then can we enjoy the nourishment and strength that comes from Him. When we take God's Word as our sustenance, consciously feeding on it instead of the teachings and ideas of the world, then we may enjoy the "refuge" that is Him.

Let me put this in wording that reveals how God is speaking to me today:

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. [2 Corinthians 10.3-5]

God's mighty weapons can be broadly summed up in this: His Word! If we "taste and see" (eat) His Word instead of the 'word' of the world - then we are in position to counteract and overcome the word of the world in all its human reasoning and false arguments. In other words, if the world says "cancer," God's Word says "I am your Healer." If the world says "poverty," God's Word says, "The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not want!" If the world says, "Fear!" God's Word says, "You may have peace!"

Our best example and model of this in action is Jesus Christ. When the world said, "He's dead," Jesus said, "He lives!" When the world said, "He's lame!" Jesus said, "He walks!" When the world says, "Fear!" Jesus said, "I have overcome the world!"

By declaration of God's Word, human reasoning and its false arguments are strongholds of the enemy and as such, are to be knocked down and destroyed! Human reasoning and false arguments prevent us from "tasting and seeing" all that God is. They incarcerate us in the prison of mere (cursed/damned) humanity with its proudly acclaimed reason and human (false) arguments thus isolating us from the knowledge of Who God Is and therefore what God does!

If we do not know God is Healer, how can we ever be healed? If we do not know God as Provider, how can we ever be sustained? If we do not know God as Peace, how can we ever stop fearing? WE CAN'T!

If we do not know God, we are left with human reasoning and its false arguments (compared to God's true Word). Sadly, too many today are ignorant of the God they claim to know.

Human reasoning and false arguments say, "Don't taste and see that the LORD is good," but instead they herald "Trust man!" to figure it out, to provide the science, medicine, money, or technology to sustain us.

I might be wrong, ...right? 

God straightforwardly addressed the issue of man's reason and arguments:

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. [Isaiah 55.8-9]

So, why not "taste and see...?"

Father, forgive me for allowing the world's reasoning and ideas to dictate what I experience in life. I want to know You more...
