Revelation Of Christ!

And the LORD said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. “Suppose a man’s wife goes astray, and she is unfaithful to her husband and has sex with another man, but neither her husband nor anyone else knows about it. She has defiled herself, even though there was no witness and she was not caught in the act. If her husband becomes jealous and is suspicious of his wife and needs to know whether or not she has defiled herself, the husband must bring his wife to the priest. He must also bring an offering of two quarts of barley flour to be presented on her behalf. Do not mix it with olive oil or frankincense, for it is a jealousy offering—an offering to prove whether or not she is guilty. [Numbers 5.11-15]

Okay, here is a subject for the "touchy" book!

Question: why is only the woman addressed in this description of how to deal with jealousy?

First and foremost, we must remain mindful that all the OT scriptures point to Jesus...

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! [John 5.39]

Up to this point (in reading through this OYCB this year), we recently saw that females were valued at lower values than men (see What Are You Worth?). In that discussion, we saw that, even though females were valued lower than males, the males weren't really valued that high either.

If the female represents the body of Christ, then the male represents Christ, the head. The valuation of the "body of Christ" should (if the OT truly points to Christ) always value the head higher than the body.

The fact that males' values (even at today's silver value - how their worth was measured) are still not so high serves to remind humans as a race to be humble.

Concerning "Christ as head," it is not ironic that we find the following passage earlier in the Bible:

You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. [Exodus 20.5]

Now, I am certain there is more to be understood from the whole male/female differentiations made in the Bible, but suffice it to say today that, as we seek Christ in the OT (including in gender issues), we will find Him.

And, for the record, male or female caught in adultery were sentenced to death:

“If a man commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death. [Leviticus 20.10]

Father, help us to read Your word without our modern mindsets of moral or social justice. Help us to seek and find Jesus in all Your Word. Help us to learn how to live as we do...

Amen, Brother Greg.
I am still really caught up in deep thought in regards to a few things in this message today. First, I've always wondered why it was always the woman that was mentioned is situations like this in the bible, I appreciate your thoughts on this matter, I believe it really helped me to grasp the understanding of that question better, yet I still need more time for it to sink in. Second, I am just caught wondering about the Exodus 20:5 Scripture. How was some of my family? I know most immediate family and how they lived but I wonder about the previous generations. I know some stories I have heard but they weren't all too good either, so ya see I'm just in a dilemma as to needing prayer and clarification as to my families lives and how they lived with/without Christ Jesus. Did they deny Him or did they serve Him? Question! Question! Just need some prayer. Thanks for your insight Brother.

May God bless our search for a complete understanding in our comprehension of the Word and God's direction in our lives. May we seek out the core understanding of our families and know where and when we must repent on behalf of our previous generations. God Grant us with the discernment of knowing Where you wish us to humble ourselves to you in regards to self and past generations. thank you Father for your clarity and love in all things. In the wonderful name of Christ Jesus, Amen!
