God Is Not Random

Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “When you arrive in Canaan, the land I am giving you as your own possession, I may contaminate some of the houses in your land with mildew. [Leviticus 14.33-34]

Well, that seems random, right?

Let's see why we would think God contaminating a house with mildew is "random."

The only reason we would think that God's action here is random is because of an assumption on our part. Our error is found in assuming God would do anything random!

Let me explain:

“But if you refuse to listen to the LORD your God and do not obey all the commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overwhelm you: ...The LORD will strike you with wasting diseases, fever, and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought, and with blight and mildew. These disasters will pursue you until you die. [Deuteronomy 28.15 and 22]

Do you see the word "mildew" in Deuteronomy 28? Yes, it is there - yes, it is a curse for disobedience. It is not a random act of God!

The writer of Proverbs makes a very clear statement about God and randomness:

Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim. [Proverbs 26.2]

God is not random! If ever there is a curse, then there is an associated sin that caused it! Our problem is ignorance of God's character because we are ignorant of God's Word.

Think of this way: to assume God is random in causing a curse is to assume the person upon which the curse came is innocent. How smart does it seem to judge a person innocent while judging God "random" (which is not good, right?), especially in light of the fact that the Bible clearly teaches that there is no innocent man!

This only supports my thinking that man, as a practice should remain humble and repentant.

Father, I am thankful that You are never random in Your dealings with man. I am thankful that You love me and all mankind. I am thankful that there is forgiveness of sins for all who repent!

Isaiah 55:8-9 - For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

This came to mind as I read your message, granted it’s been on my mind all morning, I guess this was just a confirmation of his glory upon us. Yes, brother Greg He is not random. It’s all a matter of our knowledge of His word. It’s all there, but we must study the word to rightly decide His understanding. So clearly we can read it and read it and still not have all the understanding of it. This is clearly why his ways are not out and his thoughts are above ours. Three times this morning in my study has this came up about the differences in our thoughts and ways not as His are. We only strive to obtain His ways, His thoughts! But, the question is do we? Do we really strive for that level of comprehension? Do we really study ourselves to be approved? Do we really commit to this level of understanding His? To becoming Christlike! Are we putting in the effort to be as Christ? Deep thinking I know but is it really? Simple! Right? Definitely makes a man humble himself and his thoughts of who he is. Just a bit more rambling thoughts brother. He’s speaking we just have to listen. Loved the word brother, be blessed.
