This is the written account of the descendants of Adam. When God created human beings, he made them to be like himself. [Genesis 5.1]
Made to be like God. Now, that's a spectacular thing!
It was always God's intention for man to be like Him. However, there is responsibility in being like God. That is precisely why Satan was cast from heaven and that is precisely why Adam and Eve were cast from the Garden of Eden. God knew that in their fallen state, their circumstances must necessarily be altered to prevent their immortality from diluting His holiness.
It is quite possible I haven't a clue of which I am speaking here. But it is necessary that we all have some idea what we believe and why we believe it. So, I am putting my ideas in writing so that, in time, I might learn what stands the test of "all the Bible" and what does not.
If "the fall" separated man from God, then the work of Jesus makes reunion with God possible. That reunion with God should look spectacular, shouldn't it?
Father, help us all to understand what was lost in Adam and Eve's sin and what is gained in Jesus Christ.
