What Will Jesus Do Today?

God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. [1 Corinthians 1.9]

The New Living Translation uses the word "partnership" in this verse while most every other translation uses the word "fellowship." The Greek word used here is actually from koinonos; partnership, i.e. participation, or intercourse, or benefaction [Strong's Greek 2842].

So, while the NLT almost singularly uses the word "partnership" instead of "fellowship" it is indeed an accurate representation of what was being said. With this established, what shall we make of it?

First off, "what we make of it" matters not. What it says is what matters. And, what Paul says here is in perfect harmony with what Jesus Himself said in different ways on different occasions, not the least significant of which is:

Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” [John 20.21]

As a believer progresses in his or her relationship with God, the natural result of this relationship is likeness with Christ ("Christian" by deed). Let it be understood clearly that likeness to anything or anyone else may be good and may be religious, but ONLY likeness to Christ in every way is "Christian."

Is it any wonder Jesus warned:

“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. [Matthew 7.13-14]

Who is "the narrow gate?" Jesus. He made this clear:

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. [John 14.6]

"Partnership" or "fellowship," the actual word does not matter. What matters is Christ in me and me in Christ. Do we dare seek identity in any other (including ourselves)?

My waking thought should be, "what will Jesus do today?" not, "what will I do today?" The difference is eternal. Seriously.

Father, I understand that nothing glorifies You more than when You look at me and see Your Son...
