There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.” [John 3.1-2]
I want to focus today on one part of the well-known passage above.
Nicodemus said, "we all know that God has sent you..."
Why does this seem significant? It is significant because Nicodemus was a Pharisee! For him to say "we all know" indicted the whole sect of these religious leaders - not of ignorance, but of rebellion. They all knew the truth, but refused to obey it.
I cannot help but wonder how many naysayers today really do know that Jesus is the only way to God but refuse to acknowledge it out of pure rebellion.
The fact is clear that knowing Jesus is the Messiah has nothing to do with salvation. There remains a conscious decision for each and every living soul about whether or not they will submit to the Messiah and His teachings.
Father, help us all to understand that knowing Jesus is simply not enough. Help us to understand that even demons know Him... Help us to understand that submission to Jesus is paramount.
