Old Testament - New Testament

Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt. [Zechariah 9.9]

It is oftentimes difficult to see how Messianic prophecies like this one just pop up in Old Testament scriptures. But they do. And, I believe, there is a good reason.

The reason scriptures about Jesus seem to be random throughout the Old Testament is because all the Old Testament is about Jesus - all the Old Testament, by design, points to Jesus.

We are quick to separate Old and New Testaments in our theological minds, but God never intended such. We must realize that every scripture Jesus quoted was from what we know as the Old Testament. There is, in fact, harmony between the Old and New Testaments.

To 'camp out' in the Old Testament however is an error. Failure to see Messianic Redemption is shortsighted. To understand God of the Old Testament, is to understand Jesus of the New Testament and vice versa. To claim only New Testament allegiance is to never fully understand the New Testament.

Here's the deal: God's Word is good like He is good. Arguments against the validity of "God's Word" only find a foothold where neglect prevents the understanding of every detail in context of the whole.

Yes, even Jesus the Messiah Himself is often 'looked at with only one eye.' Many view Jesus in the singular vision of the New Testament and entirely miss the depth perception of His life and sacrifice afforded by the Old Testament.

God's Word is indeed good. And, it is complete.

Father, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the forward-looking prophecies to Jesus in the Old Testament and the foundational references by Jesus to the Old Testament!
