Sound Familiar?

“Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will send your lovers against you from every direction—those very nations from which you turned away in disgust.  [Ezekiel 23.22]

Ezekiel 23 could be deemed 'inappropriate for young readers.' The descriptions found therein are graphic.

Ezekiel 23 makes more sense to me this year than at any time previously. It does so because I am beginning to see and understand that idolatry is indeed inappropriate and graphic in the sight of God.

The point of the verse above is clear: the very things that we idolize (give our faith, love and devotion to) will eventually destroy us.

Let's say for a moment that we 'idolize' our government. In other words, we place trust (faith) in our government for that which God said He Himself would provide. According to Ezekiel 23.22, our idolization of our government will eventually "turn on us" and the very "help" we sought will become our oppression. Sound familiar?

Let's furthermore consider idolizing knowledge (science, technology, medicine). As we place our trust (faith) in our knowledge for that which God said He Himself would provide, we find that knowledge becomes our oppressor. Sound familiar?

The prognosis of our current circumstances, as it relates to the graphic idolatry of Ezekiel 23, is not good.

There is but one hope and that hope is found in genuine repentance. For all the idolatry the Old Testament so clearly and relevantly addresses today, it also addresses the faithfulness of Almighty God to forgive when true repentance is found.

The message today is: REPENT! Our idolatry with our current systems is as graphically inappropriate before God as is the sisters' lewdness that Ezekiel tells about.

Father, forgive me for idolizing man (including myself), his devices and design. Forgive me for taking the word of these idols in priority over Your Word! Yes, I have done it and I repent!
