“What sorrow awaits the leaders of my people—the shepherds of my sheep—for they have destroyed and scattered the very ones they were expected to care for,” says the LORD. [Jeremiah 23.1]
I cannot recall how many sermons and teachings I have heard about this passage of scripture as a reference to spiritual leaders. However, the context of this passage is more associated with political leaders!
Political leaders should be on high alert from Almighty God that there is trouble ahead for them if they are not caring for God's people.
I am not making any threats here... but I cannot say the same for the Bible!
Father, help those who are in leadership over Your people. I realize the passage above can be interpreted as spiritual leaders, but I also very much recognize that the context covers any leader that has influence or control over Your people's lives.
