For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him! [Isaiah 64.4]
God works for those who wait for Him.
What do we make of this sentence?
It will come as no surprise that I will tell you what it says to me!
In light of what I have gleaned from God's Word over the past days and weeks, this verse simply says to me that God works for those who wait for Him (not someone or something else).
I think it is no stretch of the imagination, in consideration of all of Isaiah's focus on discouraging idol worship up to this point, that this is quite likely precisely what he meant - that God works for those wait for Him and for Him alone!
Let me give a real example. I will use myself to illustrate what I believe is being said. There are conditions in my body that I have declared my trust in God alone as my Healer. But, you know what? I have thoughts that if it gets too bad, I will have to go to the doctor. Now, tell me, am I waiting on God alone? We all know the answer is NO, I am not.
So, here is how I choose to handle this problem: When those thoughts come, I am at war...
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. [2 Corinthians 10.4-6 NKJV]
Look at this: "...casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God..."
What is the "argument?" It is the lie of sin that my body will NOT be healed.
What is "every high thing that exalts itself?" Any idol that would proudly displace God, telling me I can pray but IT will heal.
What is the "knowledge of God?" That He, and He alone is my Righteousness, Sanctifier, Peace, God Who is There, Healer, Provider, Shepherd, my Banner, Forgiver, Advocate, Refuge, Strength, Defender, Protector, Fortress, and Shield. Herein is God's glory.
Don't think even for a moment that the deceiver of mankind is nonchalant in his desire to thwart God's people from trusting in Him alone! Satan's only goal is to kill, steal, and destroy and his method has remained consistent throughout the ages because it is all he is capable of: to spread lies and misinformation.
Remember that God said at least twice in Isaiah that He will NOT share His glory!
I will repeat my faith again here and now: I would rather die in faith than live in fear! But let me elaborate: I would rather die in unadulterated fear/trust in God, than live in diluted fear/trust in God and idols! Why? BECAUSE GOD WILL NOT SHARE HIS GLORY!
Father, I know my talk is cheap. May Your name and character be glorified by my life!
