What God Does vs. Who God Is

Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. [Psalm 80.3]

And then...

Turn us again to yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. [Psalm 80.7]

And then...

Turn us again to yourself, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. [Psalm 80.19]

How do you know God? As God? Or how about as LORD God of Heaven’s Armies?

How we know God affects how we relate to and serve Him.

I am certain there is much greater depth to the 80th Psalm than I can even begin to grasp today. But this one thing I can see today: there seems to be some distinction in how we see and relate to God.

God is constant. All three of the verses above indicate that His role is unchanged: Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.

But how we see and relate to God can vary widely.

What God does is clear to be seen by all. But Who God Is can only truly be seen by those in relationship with Him.

Hmm.

Father, I want to relate to You as one in the most intimate relationship with You. I want to understand Who You Are as well as what You do.
