The Plan

So Boaz took Ruth into his home, and she became his wife. When he slept with her, the LORD enabled her to become pregnant, and she gave birth to a son. Then the women of the town said to Naomi, “Praise the LORD, who has now provided a redeemer for your family! May this child be famous in Israel. [Ruth 4.13-14]

The child's name was Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse who would become the father of Israel's beloved King David.

But David was not the redeemer the women prophesied to Naomi about... that Redeemer was Jesus.

There are so many names presented in today's OYCB reading! I cannot help but believe that careful study of each of the lineages defined here would reveal much more than we could imagine. Ruth's story reveals how intricate God's plan really is. Ruth's story reveals in part that God's plan was (and is) indeed a plan.

There was, and IS, a plan. God loves the world and has planned from the beginning to redeem all who come to Him in faith. Faith leads to repentance which leads to forgiveness which leads to redemption which leads to every good and perfect gift from God.

Father, I am overwhelmed today by Your plan.
