Then Saul admitted to Samuel, “Yes, I have sinned. I have disobeyed your instructions and the LORD’s command, for I was afraid of the people and did what they demanded. [1 Samuel 15.24]
How Saul's story changed! At first he acted surprised that Samuel confronted him. But, all Saul was doing was deceitfully trying to cover up his rebellion.
Finally, after Samuel persisted, Saul admitted that he had in fact disobeyed God. He knew he had done wrong even though he denied it at first.
I just wish I didn't recognize this tactic. It started with disobedience and turned to lying, making it twice as bad.
Father, forgive me for the times in my life I tried to convince myself and others that I obeyed You when clearly I had not.
