“In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel on the sacred chestpiece over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the LORD. [Exodus 28.29]
Maybe I have sufficient scripture to support my claims to praying over lists of people and maybe I don't.
However, this scripture does support the idea that there is at least something to having a record of whom we represent as we approach God in prayer.
My list reminds me every day that God loves the world (I have a list of the nations of the world that I pray for daily). My list also contains the leaders of my nation, state, county and city. My list contains the names of friends and family. My list contains the names of others of various relationships and needs.
My list reminds me that I have responsibility to these people before God. And, some days it is overwhelming. But every day it is fulfilling to know that I partner with God in His will on earth as it is in heaven.
May God help us all to take the responsibility of people before Him in prayer.
Father, there is so much more I know You have for me to obey You in. Thank You for showing me that it starts in prayer and intercession for others - because that is Your heart... Let my words and actions help others to see the importance of intercession.
