The Importance And Safety Of Silence

Your sins are telling your mouth what to say. Your words are based on clever deception. [Job 15.5]

What a profound statement by Job's friend Eliphaz. What's more profound, even ironic, is that a story with so much said about talking too much is 42 chapters long!

Of the 66 books of the Bible, Job ranks as 22nd longest. I originally thought Job must be longer than that, but when I researched it, I found out differently. So the question looms, why did I think it was so long? Perhaps it was because the story is so "wordy" with its back and forth contest of words between Job and his friends.

We must keep in mind too that Job finally confesses his sin to God and specifically repented of saying too much!

Hmm.

Perhaps we should all pay attention to the verse above and remain mindful of our mouths. Where is what we are saying coming from?

Father, help me to understand the importance, and even safety, of silence in my life
