Some Serious Hate

After two years went by in this way, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And because Felix wanted to gain favor with the Jewish people, he left Paul in prison. Three days after Festus arrived in Caesarea to take over his new responsibilities, he left for Jerusalem, where the leading priests and other Jewish leaders met with him and made their accusations against Paul. [Acts 24.27-25.2]

Think about this... It was two years that Paul was imprisoned by Felix! So long was it that Felix was succeeded by Festus.

It is not surprising that government would move so slow. But what is surprising is that the Jewish leaders' hatred and disdain for Paul only grew worse. Their intent to kill Paul had only grown more. Now that is some serious hate!

Father, help me to review my life to be sure I am not harboring any bitterness in my heart toward anyone. Unlike the Jewish leaders of this story today, help me instead consider why any bitterness exists and allow You by Your Holy Spirit to adjust my thinking.
