We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. [1 Thessalonians 1.2]
As I am currently seeking the Father's direction on ministry and the future, it occurred to me through this statement from Paul to the Thessalonian church that he communicated with those he prayed for.
As the writer of several letters found in the New Testament, Paul's pattern of prayer and communication seems to be consistent.
This is also very consistent with the life of Christ. As Paul ministered in preaching and writing to those he obviously prayed for, so we see Jesus' example as a man of much prayer Who, when encountering people, brought the power of God in word and deed.
The lesson is clear: the foundation of ministry to people is prayer for them.
It might also be said that failure to pray for people, will most certainly result in failure to effectively minister to them.
Father, help me to effectively pray for people. But also, help me to act upon my prayer for people with diligent follow-through in word and deed!
