At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” [Matthew 27.46]
God has never asked a question He did not know the answer to. If Jesus is God, then this fact remains consistent in Him.
Any time God asks a question, it is with the purpose of revealing a truth.
For example, when God asked Adam and Eve, "where are you?" it was not because He had misplaced them! It was for the Kingdom purpose of revealing to them that they had hidden from God - that they had separated themselves from God.
So, with this established, we should understand that when Jesus said, "My God, my God, why have You abandoned me?" it was to reveal that God had indeed abandoned Jesus so that salvation's price might be fulfilled - might be paid. It was a Kingdom revelation that the plan of God for the salvation of the world was complete. That is why Jesus is also on record of having said, "It is finished!"
The point is, God's plan for the salvation of the world has never been out of control. It wasn't at Jesus' crucifixion, and it isn't now.
Father, help us to understand that You are in control. Always.
