If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. [1 Corinthians 13.3]
Contrasted to Jesus' statement below, we must give careful consideration to what Paul is saying in the verse above.
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. [John 15.13]
Here's the deal: it IS possible to lay down one's life for his friends without genuine love. But it is NOT possible to genuinely love without laying down one's life for his friends.
There is something to think about here!
Father I want to be found in genuine love more than anything else. God forbid that I should lay down my life for others without loving them! What a tragedy that would be!
