Abandoning The Faith

“I have told you these things so that you won’t abandon your faith. [John 16.1]

What things?

Verses 18-20: "the world will hate you," and verse 26: "But I will send you the Advocate."

While considering the world hating us seems an overwhelming thing all by itself, it pales when compared to the fact that we have the Holy Spirit.

Now, whether or not we believe the Holy Spirit is the Greater One Who dwells in us is a daily task.

And how do we know the Holy Spirit dwells in us? We know it by the works He does through us - the works that look just like Jesus.

Far too long, the Church has been hung up on "speaking in tongues" as the sign of the Holy Spirit, but that is only a very very small part! I do not deny speaking in tongues as a sign of the Holy Spirit, but it is far out-weighed by the sign of 'the works of Jesus' in the life of a believer!

Abandoning the faith means we don't look like Jesus. Jesus told us we have the Holy Spirit to avoid abandoning the faith. Food for thought!

Father, help us understand that our lives will look like Jesus when we operate in the power of the Holy Spirit!
