“I, the LORD, was very angry with your ancestors. Therefore, say to the people, ‘This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: Return to me, and I will return to you, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.’ Don’t be like your ancestors who would not listen or pay attention when the earlier prophets said to them, ‘This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: Turn from your evil ways, and stop all your evil practices.’ “Where are your ancestors now? They and the prophets are long dead. But everything I said through my servants the prophets happened to your ancestors, just as I said. As a result, they repented and said, ‘We have received what we deserved from the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. He has done what he said he would do.’” [Zechariah 1.2-6]
God will do what He said. Every time. Count on it.
God never revoked His own word that He would destroy unrighteousness and unfaithfulness. Neither before, during, or after Jesus' advent to earth.
What God did do was say that faith in Christ provided redemption from His curse upon disobedience (unrighteousness and unfaithfulness). Otherwise, the curse remains.
We live in such a godless society that nowadays we highly discount God's Word. Oh sure, we go to church and quote scriptures, but when difficulties arise, we resort first to our medicine, science, technology, politics, and money. Rarely, if ever, do we first go to God with the clear understanding that curses are the result of sin, and therefore repent until the curse is overcome.
How can the church today, in all its powerlessness and worldliness, ever think it is shining the Light of Christ to the world? Where are the works of Jesus? After all, Jesus said we would do the same works He did (and greater works). Why aren't we doing at very least the same works Jesus did? And, since we are not doing the works of Jesus, is that not disobedience (even disobedience of faith)? And, if we are found in disobedience, should we not then conclude that the curses the Church shares alike today with the world are damning evidence that something is wrong?
Something IS wrong! The Church is experiencing all the same curses the world suffers. There is no distinction between Light and darkness. Hello! Are we paying attention?
Father, let my life reflect Your glory as Jesus reflected Your glory and passed on to me. Let my life be a dead-short on curses I come in contact with just as Jesus put an end to the curses He came in contact with. Be glorified in me. Forgive me for being satisfied with curses in my life instead of repenting of sin and stopping those curses in their tracks.
