Righteous And Victorious, Yet Humble

Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you.  He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt. [Zechariah 9.9]

Jesus. righteous and victorious, yet humble.

Jesus is our example. Many make the mistake of only seeing Jesus as Lord and Savior, but failing to take seriously His example for all to follow.

And yet, everything Jesus taught about the Kingdom was in effort for us to understand this very thing: righteous and victorious, yet humble.

Oh, we love the righteous and victorious part. Humility, in the other hand, is something we spend little to no effort on.

Humility is an effort of self-control. But even more than than, it is an effort of Spirit-control. In fact, most of us controlling ourselves is the problem!

Jesus was under control of the Holy Spirit. The same Holy Spirit that controlled Jesus waits to control our lives as well. It wasn't Jesus own self-control that overcame Satan in the wilderness, it was the Holy Spirit that made that possible.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. [Matthew 4.1]

"Then..." when? After John the Baptist baptized Jesus and the Holy Spirit came upon Him!

It has nothing to do with how strong I am as a Christian. Righteousness and victory have everything to do with how in control the Holy Spirit is in my life. I best just be busy about repentance, because, unlike Jesus, I am not perfect.

So, for me to be righteous and victorious, I must be humble - humble enough to get out of the way and allow the Holy Spirit to do what He does! Frankly, the harder I work at it, the less likely the Holy Spirit is to be in control. But, the more humble and repentant I am, the more likely the Holy Spirit will manifest in Jesus-like fashion!

It is interesting how it all works...

Father, help me to focus my efforts on repentance and humility. I am fully confident You have the righteousness and victory under control.
