Slow To Get Angry, But...

The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. At his command the oceans dry up, and the rivers disappear. The lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wither. In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence. [Nahum 1.3-6]

The LORD is slow to get angry, but...

Justice is as much a part of God as is mercy and love. When we understand God's character more completely, His Word (the Bible in general) makes more sense.

We must understand that obedience does not go unpunished. In fact, Jesus suffered all the punishment for disobedience to the Law. Faith in Him is imperative to enjoy the blessings of forgiveness. However, disobedience to faith remains punishable by every curse written in the Bible including the punishment of eternal separation from God.

God is as much God today as He has ever been. He is as in control of everything as He has ever been. The curses described in Deuteronomy 28 are still very much prevalent today and they remain the destiny of the disobedient. There is disobedience to the Law (that Jesus paid for) and disobedience to faith (that Jesus demanded). However, the justice served against either 'disobedience' remains the same.

If curses are present, the repentance is necessary.

I would say I need to repent!

Father, I am reminded once again today that there is simply no room for pride and arrogance in me. Forgive me for the disobedience to faith that has been my life for so long.
