This is what the LORD says: Be fair-minded and just. Do what is right! Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. Quit your evil deeds! Do not mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows. Stop murdering the innocent! [Jeremiah 22.3]
This was a message from the LORD to Jehoahaz, king of Judah, through Jeremiah the prophet. It's not a bad message for our leaders today!
God really doesn't require much except that we treat people right and with mercy. God really does care about oppressed people.
This passage from Jeremiah serves as an excellent standard for political leadership today. However, political leadership today is sadly quite far from it. I know its complicated, but it doesn't have to be!
Father, help the leaders of our nations to be fair-minded and just. Help them do what is right.
