Ezekiel 23.1-49
Ezekiel's story of Two Sisters is graphic. It is filled with sexual references. It is filled with adultery. It is filled with depictions of unrestrained sexual lust.
What does Ezekiel's story of the Two Sisters have to do with God and His people?
Interestingly enough, Ezekiel's story is a word picture of the tragedy of God's people ("married" to Him as their only source and supply) who commit adultery against God by turning to others for the very needs that God said He would supply.
The graphic nature of Ezekiel's writing is to drive home the point that the implications of God's people committing this sin are deep and serious.
Sadly, the same "adultery" is being committed today with little or no thought by God's people.
Every name by which God was known in the Bible is indicative of the areas in which God's people are to trust in Him alone... He is our Righteousness , our Sanctifier, our Peace, and He is There. He is our Healer, our Provider, our Shepherd, and our Banner. He is our Forgiver, our Advocate, our Refuge, and our Strength. He is our Defender, our Protector, our Fortress, and our Shield.
So, for any source that is not God from which we seek the above benefits, WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMITTING ADULTERY AGAINST OUR GOD! And, that adultery is as repulsive to God as the Two Sisters' grossly graphic lustful abandon.
In fact, much of the Old Testament serves to teach God's people that He does not tolerate His people trusting anything or anyone but Him.
It is no wonder Jesus taught:
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. [Matthew 6.33]
It is furthermore of no surprise that Jesus constantly scolded His followers for unbelief.
Where does that leave us? It's all about trust.
Father, forgive me for trusting anything or anyone for those things You said You would provide.
