The Lord, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, will take away from Jerusalem and Judah everything they depend on: every bit of bread and every drop of water, all their heroes and soldiers, judges and prophets, fortune-tellers and elders, army officers and high officials, advisers, skilled sorcerers, and astrologers. [Isaiah 3.1-3]
Even though this is a narrative of Isaiah's prophecy against Jerusalem and Judah, we can learn a critical lesson about God from this passage.
God wants us to depend on Him for everything.
Even if I think I can take care of something for myself, God wants me to depend on Him instead.
It's just that simple.
Thinking I am capable of taking care of something by myself is the very onset of pride. God categorically rejects human pride.
Father, forgive me for thinking I am capable of anything on my own.
