Condition "Humble"

O LORD, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. [Psalm 86.5]

God put a condition on His goodness, forgiveness, and love for us: we must ask. I am not making this up... just read the verse above again.

Why would we not spend all the time necessary to be sure we are among "all who ask for" God's help? There is only one answer: because we do not really believe God is good, ready to forgive, and full of unfailing love.

Oh, we would never say we do not believe God is good, ready to forgive, and full of unfailing love,  would we? Of course not, but our prayerlessness in the midst of troubles proves it without words.

So, how long do we continue to pray for God's goodness, forgiveness, and love to manifest? The answer is simple: we pray until His goodness, forgiveness, and love manifest!

To be clear, asking God for help requires something of us. Beyond just 'asking the question,' making requests of God requires a condition of humility. We must humble ourselves to ask for help. To do so is an admission of inadequacy on our part. The reason we are inadequate is because of sin. Sin requires repentance.

A scripture comes to mind...

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. [2 Chronicles 7.14]

Father, I want to remain in an attitude of humility and prayer and repentance before You. You are the only One Who is good, ready to forgive, and full of unfailing love!
