A Prayer of Faith

“O LORD,” I prayed, “have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.” [Psalm 41.4]

It's just not popular to associate infirmities with sin.

But, if David (the "man after God's own heart") did, then I will too.

We've come to the place in history where we have allowed our science to govern our lives instead of our God. Why do I say that? Because we explain everything nowadays with natural explanations instead of spiritual explanations. And, when we do that, repentance is no longer considered a remedy.

Now I know that Jesus stated in John 9 that the blind man's condition was not because of his or his parents' sins...

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. “Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.” Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing! [John 9.1-7]

This is so important because there is a seriously deep teaching here by Jesus.

We know that "whatsoever is not of faith is sin," right?

And, what does it take to see the power of God? Faith.

Jesus, in this instance in John 9, was trying to get His followers then and now to see that the work He was sent to earth to do was not to condemn the world, but to save it. There was no point in discussing "whose fault" it was, but the goal was to approach the situation with faith so that God would be glorified.

You see, we can sin in any number of ways. That sin brings curses. But do we realize that even if we are otherwise "sinless" in our lives, that the absence of faith qualifies us for curses (because whatsoever is not of faith is sin! [Romans 14.23])?

God is glorified in the curse being broken. If the curse is not broken, God is not glorified.

So, back to Psalms...

I know I am not sinless. So, this is my prayer...

Father, have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.
