Then King David said to his officials, “Don’t you realize that a great commander has fallen today in Israel? And even though I am the anointed king, these two sons of Zeruiah—Joab and Abishai—are too strong for me to control. So may the LORD repay these evil men for their evil deeds.” [2 Samuel 3.38-39]
At what point did things start going roughly for David?
Frankly, it seems David's life was 'rough' on many occasions. Starting with Saul, David encountered conflict and it just seems like conflict found him again and again.
I don't really understand why David allowed Joab and Abishai to live after they murdered Abner.
I have no idea of its significance, but the Word records that David got Michal back in today's reading. One would have to know more about this situation than I understand, but, even though Michal was originally called David's wife, she had been given to another man, Palti. So, in this regard, Bathsheba was not the first man's wife David 'took' but Michal was.
I will leave it at this today: something seemed to be going awry with David's rule.
Father, help me to understand the circumstances around David's life as they pertain to obedience or disobedience to You.
