Human Help Is Useless

Oh, please help us against our enemies, for all human help is useless. With God’s help we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes. [Psalm 60.11-12]

There is a phrase in this verse that is an eternal and absolute truth... "all human help is useless."

The world, with all its education, sciences and 'advancements,' has attributed all its successes to its own efforts. This is evident every day in the 'encouraging' statements made about the "human spirit."

Contemporary with current events (COVID-19 pandemic), we are seeing and hearing much about the human spirit. It is being largely publicized that "we will survive," or "we will get through this." Others keep saying, "we are all in this together," in attempts to muster people to work together and obey the rules.

Others still, believe, given enough money, that solutions will come - that vaccines and treatments will be developed. We hear often, "we can do this - we just have to work together."

Television commercials, Hollywood stars, corporate representatives, and political leaders... not to mention religious leaders are all pretty much saying the same thing, "it's going to be alright."

But is it? Is there enough "human spirit" or "American pride" to overcome a clear curse for sin? I don't think so - but who am I, right?

Until God's people (because worldly people will never come to the conclusion on their own) show by their actions that God alone offers the perfect and complete solution to our problem, then we are left to the efforts of man.

Frankly, right now, the efforts of man have made very clear that there are suspicions, incompetence, unpreparedness, political posturing, greed, blame-shifting, confusion, arrogance, finger-pointing, fear, denial and possibly even ulterior motives in much of what we are experiencing.

Human help is useless.

As for me, my efforts right now are focused on repentance. Why? Because diseases are curses according to the Bible. Curses are the result of the wicked ways of sin. And 2 Chronicles 7.14 says:
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. [2 Chronicles 7.14]
No mention is made of seeking human help. No human effort is given a part in remedying the problem except for repentance.

REPENT!

Father, my prayer will remain the same, "Forgive us..."
