So Moses gave the command, and this message was sent throughout the camp: “Men and women, don’t prepare any more gifts for the sanctuary. We have enough!” So the people stopped bringing their sacred offerings. Their contributions were more than enough to complete the whole project. [Exodus 36.6-7]
As I read this again this year, it amazed me once more that the people of Israel had enough "stuff" with them upon their exodus from Egypt to build the Tabernacle! Where did all this stuff come from?
Of course the amount of "stuff" Israel left Egypt with is relative to how many people left Egypt, right? Yes.
Obviously, most of this "stuff" was that of which was spoken in Exodus 12:
And the people of Israel did as Moses had instructed; they asked the Egyptians for clothing and articles of silver and gold. The LORD caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites whatever they asked for. So they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth! [Exodus 12.35-36]
It is interesting then, that the very center of worship for Israel was made from the spoils of Egypt.
Father, I don't know the real significance of what I have read today, but I know it is significant. Help me to remain mindful that every detail recorded in the Bible has significance.
