“You must faithfully keep all my commands by putting them into practice, for I am the LORD. Do not bring shame on my holy name, for I will display my holiness among the people of Israel. I am the LORD who makes you holy. It was I who rescued you from the land of Egypt, that I might be your God. I am the LORD.” [Leviticus 22.31-33]
Throughout today's OYCB reading, there is no shortage for statements like the passage above. Over and over God says "I am Holy," or "you must be holy," or something similar.
The priests had to be without defect to enter God's presence. Likewise, the sacrificial animals could not have defects. Why? Because no defect could come before Holy God.
This would apply to Jesus. There was no defect in Jesus whatsoever. And, what He has done is make the way into God's presence for us.
The thing that stands out to me is that God is Holy and, as such, by His character and very existence has nothing to do with sickness, disease, or defect of any kind. By this, we may be sure that God's will (for any and all who would come into His presence) is healing - every time.
The only exception is the person who does not follow God or make any attempt to do so - that person is bound for curses and every disease and defect described in the Bible (Deuteronomy 28).
When Jesus taught us to pray, "May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven..." he was giving us the authority and commission to take a stand against every disease and defect known to man. There is no disease and there are no defects in heaven. Jesus said, "Pray like this..." There really is no option given otherwise.
The reason there no option is God's holiness. Holiness has no disease or defect.
God commands us to be holy. Holiness has no disease or defect!
The reason there is no disease or defect in heaven is holiness. The fact that Jesus taught us to pray for God's will on earth as it is in heaven confirms God's desire for holiness in His people! This includes freedom for disease and defect!
All God's holiness is available to any and all who will repent of their sin and believe in Jesus.
There should be no argument about God's will in almost any given situation as we consider God's demands for holiness. It is only when we proudly adopt human "religious" views and opinions - instead of God's Word - that we find ourselves accepting, and even embracing disease and defects.
Disease and defects are a sign of sin. They are the result of God's curse upon disobedience. Only the blood of a perfect sacrifice can change this - the blood of Jesus Christ.
Father, thank You for Jesus. Thank You for Your holiness. Thank You for the Truth of the Bible concerning disease and defects - the Truth that Your will, every time, and in every circumstance is for men to repent of their sin - turn to You - and be healed!
