“One time during the mating season, I had a dream and saw that the male goats mating with the females were streaked, speckled, and spotted. Then in my dream, the angel of God said to me, ‘Jacob!’ And I replied, ‘Yes, here I am.’ “The angel said, ‘Look up, and you will see that only the streaked, speckled, and spotted males are mating with the females of your flock. For I have seen how Laban has treated you. [Genesis 31.10-12]
It seems God did not necessarily acknowledge Jacob's efforts at breeding his animals. Instead, He claimed responsibility for Jacob's breeding success (streaked, speckled, and spotted animals proliferating).
I think that is how it is though. We claim responsibility for so much that we do, but it is God Who causes us to triumph in any and every situation.
Now, what I said in the previous paragraph is true, and we all know it is, but... When it comes down to acknowledging God's role in our lives, we often conveniently leave Him out saying, "I did that."
Father, the lesson is simple for me today. I need to acknowledge Your role in my life. Actually, I need to acknowledge that You ARE my life! Forgive me for taking credit for the good or smart things I have done.
