The Wisdom of Silence

If only you could be silent! That’s the wisest thing you could do. [Job 13.5]

If only the giver of this excellent advice would have heeded it himself!

We see in today's OYCB reading that Job begins arguing his case with God.  But before he does, he gets quite sarcastic with his friends:

“You people really know everything, don’t you? And when you die, wisdom will die with you! Well, I know a few things myself—and you’re no better than I am. Who doesn’t know these things you’ve been saying? [Job 12.2-3]

I would say the progression of events here is the classic blunder many make. I know I have.

If only we could be silent! That's the wisest thing we could do.

Father, help me to understand the wisdom and power of silence.
