Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. [Matthew 28.5-6]
What a moment of revelation!
I suppose it is quite possible that the women arrived to the tomb just after the actual miracle of Jesus rising from the dead. After all, an angel was still there and an earthquake had just occurred.
I wonder what the atmosphere felt like. I wonder what it looked like. I wonder what it smelled like.
Can you imagine what emotions went through the women's minds? They went expecting 'finality' and instead found 'new life.' They were likely somewhat composed from the events of the crucifixion having had the Sabbath for contemplation and were now prepared to say their final 'good-byes' seeing the body one last time. But what a different circumstance they found!
I think I need to consider those moments of revelation. I think I need to consider the possibilities.
Father, help me to grasp all there is to grasp from Jesus' resurrection. Help me to not miss a detail and its significance.
