Change My Heart

A man should not wear anything on his head when worshiping, for man is made in God’s image and reflects God’s glory. And woman reflects man’s glory. [1 Corinthians 11.7]

You know, there is a problem in the Church today. I just realized that, even though I recognize the problem, I am also part of the problem.

Just last night, I was helping lead worship in an outdoor venue in my city... I was wearing a ball cap.

Any more, in church services, it seems no big deal for men to come in with ball caps and various head coverings on and leave them on. Some even do so while praying.

And, while we are at it, long hair on men seems to be quite the fashion statement today. According to Paul, long hair serves as a 'covering' for women so, it can be deduced that long hair serves as a covering for men... And there is the problem again, Paul says men should not worship with their heads covered.

While one might argue, "what's the big deal?" it might also be seen that the Church has become increasingly more worldly instead of more holy.

There is an attitude among churches today that God is not interested in how we approach Him. And, maybe that is true, but someone should have 'given the Apostle Paul the memo!'

And, while I am stirring up trouble here, we might as well address the elephant in the room, Paul's discussion about the 'pecking order' between Christ, men, and women. Paul's order is clear. Is it God's order? Or again, did Paul, 'miss the memo?' I am being sarcastic...

Jesus once said the only person we should fear is God. And, by "fear" Jesus meant, "be afraid of." Why? Because God alone possesses the power to send a soul to hell, and THAT is to be feared (not just 'respected'). With this established, does it not make sense that we should approach the One Who possesses our destiny a little differently than we approach the clerk at the convenience store? Of course it does.

Christians don't look and act much differently than the world today. And, they certainly do not look and act like Christ.

Should we be concerned?

Father, forgive me for worshiping You last night with my head covered. Forgive me for a generally lazy, unconcerned attitude when coming into Your presence. I know it is a heart issue. Change my heart, oh God.
