But I have a greater witness than John—my teachings and my miracles. The Father gave me these works to accomplish, and they prove that he sent me. [John 5.36]
Here we see Jesus doing what God sent Him to do. What He did proved He was sent from God.
Elsewhere Jesus clearly teaches His followers to do as He has demonstrated and even tells them they will do greater works than they have seen in Him.
So, if we do the same works as Jesus, those works prove we are sent by Him.
Unfortunately, if we do not do the same works of Jesus, there is no validation that we are sent by Him. If we do not have the same witness, the witness of teachings and miracles, then there is no proof that we are doing the works of God (like teachings and miracles proved Jesus was sent by God).
I am not making any of this up! Everything I have said here is seen throughout the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus.
We have been given works to accomplish - to look and act like Jesus. How's that working out for us?
Father, I confess that my life does not look like Jesus. Please forgive me for being far too focused on me - on my will, on 'being me' - to the point that I even am proud of my identity in me instead of in Christ. Help me to look and act like Jesus regardless what opposition comes my way.
