Who God Is

Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me. He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him. His mighty arm has done tremendous things! He has scattered the proud and haughty ones. He has brought down princes from their thrones and exalted the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands. He has helped his servant Israel and remembered to be merciful. For he made this promise to our ancestors, to Abraham and his children forever.” [Luke 1.46-55]

This passage, known as "The Magnificat: Mary’s Song of Praise" is one of the most descriptive passages in the Bible about God.
He is holy.
He has done great things.
He shows mercy to those who fear Him.
His mighty arm does tremendous things.
He scatters proud and haughty ones (bringing down princes and exalting the humble).
He feeds the hungry with good things and sends the rich away with empty hands.
He helps and is merciful to Israel (to whom He promised the Messiah).
So, we can take this "Table of Contents" if you will, about Jesus, and then see the full story in Jesus' life as He lives it out as recorded in the Gospels.

Now, here is a twist. Jesus, on more than once occasion, instructed His followers to be and do as He was and did.

No pressure there, right?

In theatrical terms, [Enter from above], the Holy Spirit is sent by Jesus! So, whatever pressure we might feel from Jesus' instructions is relieved by His Holy Spirit living in us - to be and do what He commissioned us to be and do!

When and if the Church ever really once again gets this, will be a powerful time in history.

Father, You are everything the Bible says You are!
