For I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to accompany us and protect us from enemies along the way. After all, we had told the king, “Our God’s hand of protection is on all who worship him, but his fierce anger rages against those who abandon him.” [Ezra 8.22]
If only we were as protective of the glory of God in and upon our lives!
Is it not a mockery to make all the claims we Christians make about the power and sustenance of our God and then depend on every solution of man's doing?
For example, if we call our "Our Healer," and readily go to the doctor, is there not hypocrisy in our ways? If we say, "God protects and keeps us," but we are insured thoroughly, are we not sending a confusing message to the world in which we live? If, as a nation, we say, "God fights for us," but we form alliances with other nations who do not fear God, are we not lying to ourselves?
The Scripture says "If God be for us, who can be against us" But, by our lives it could better be said, "If God be for us, how would anyone really know?"
Where is the shame in our faithlessness?
Father, I am ashamed of my dependence upon the world and its ways instead of You. Please forgive me this wrong and help me to live in complete faith and trust of You and You ALONE!
