God Is That Obvious

The whole human race is foolish and has no knowledge! The craftsmen are disgraced by the idols they make, for their carefully shaped works are a fraud. These idols have no breath or power. [Jeremiah 10.14]

This verse stood out to me today for one reason: it spoke of idols and the fact that they were lifeless and powerless evidenced by the fact that they have no breath or power.

But, wait a minute! How do we know God has any breath or power? Really! How do we know? I mean, we 'say' God has breath and is powerful, but the same could be 'said' for lifeless idols! We can 'say' anything! But the proof is in the breath and power demonstrated!

Just a few verses before this verse Jeremiah speaks of the voice of God in the thunder.I believe it is quite safe to say the breath of God is nothing less than the wind we experience almost every day. No idol can do that! But isn't the wind just a natural phenomenon of the earth? Well, we could say the same for thunder, but the Bible says in more than one place that thunder is the voice of God.

And what have we experienced on earth that is more powerful than the weather? And, what is the weather if it is not wind and thunder (among other things)?

So, if Jeremiah is taunting idols because they have no manifest, measurable breath or power, I would think he is comparing that to God WHO DOES HAVE MANIFEST MEASURABLE BREATH AND POWER!

Perhaps the next time we feel the wind blow or hear thunder, it might be a good thing to stop and feel  the touch and hear the voice of God. God is that obvious.

Father, thank You for manifesting Your presence on the earth and in my life. Help me not be so dull as to wrongly attribute wind and thunder to anything but You!
