A Call To Repentance: Calamity

Does not the Most High send both calamity and good? Then why should we, mere humans, complain when we are punished for our sins? Instead, let us test and examine our ways. Let us turn back to the LORD. Let us lift our hearts and hands to God in heaven and say, “We have sinned and rebelled, and you have not forgiven us. [Lamentations 3.38-42]

Here are the facts that may be gleaned form the passage above: Calamity is punishment. It is our invitation to repent.

Got calamity? Got troubles? Got hard times? Repent!

Why would we not simply see calamity as a call to repentance? One word: pride.

Father, I see clearly that life really is not that complicated. The only thing that complicates our lives is our own pride and arrogance - our refusal to repent in the midst of calamity.
