More With Less

One day a man from Baal-shalishah brought the man of God a sack of fresh grain and twenty loaves of barley bread made from the first grain of his harvest. Elisha said, “Give it to the people so they can eat.” “What?” his servant exclaimed. “Feed a hundred people with only this?” But Elisha repeated, “Give it to the people so they can eat, for this is what the LORD says: Everyone will eat, and there will even be some left over!” And when they gave it to the people, there was plenty for all and some left over, just as the LORD had promised. [2 Kings 4.42-44]

So, Jesus' miracle of loaves and fishes was not the first account of food having been divided to feed many more people than it normally would have fed.

It seems to be a pattern with God to do more with less.

"More with less!"

That sounds like a sales pitch designed to get our attention! I think it is!

Most sales pitches on earth are, in their least harmful version, an exaggeration of the truth. Some are much worse.

However, when it comes to God and the claim of "more with less" we have several accounts in the Bible that verify its reality.

Could it be true? Could/would God actually multiply provisions? Apparently so.

The real question is: would God multiply provisions today?

It does not seem ironic to me that when Elijah was taken from Elisha and Elisha went back to the Jordan River to cross it that he struck the river with Elijah's cloak that was left behind and said, "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" Elisha was seeking God.

Jesus told us:

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. [Matthew 6.33]

Hmm.

Father, it appears there is nothing changed on Your part regarding the miraculous. It would seem the burden of miracle-lessness rests upon "believers." Help me to believe!
