Then Joshua asked them, “How long are you going to wait before taking possession of the remaining land the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has given to you? [Joshua 18.3]
How long will God's people wait before living in all the promises the LORD, our God, has given us?
There are promises in the Bible concerning, I suppose, every area of life on earth. Of course there are promises about eternity too, but there are, very much, promises about here and now.
What if God was waiting to fulfill eternal promises for His people until they learned to live in His promises for this temporal life?
Christians often depend on external events to determine when the end of time as we know it comes. Jesus, in fact, pointed to certain events as indicators of end times. But, what also did Jesus say? He said "watch and pray..."
So, God's promises, including the culmination of time as we know it into eternity, hinges upon God's people watching and praying. God will indeed do what He is going to do regardless, but (again), what if God's decision to send Jesus to gather His own is contingent upon, not world events, but Christian watchfulness and prayer (with world events following)?
What if Christian watchfulness and prayer are the catalysts for the world events that signify end times?
I am just talking here, so don't anyone do anything rash at my direction! But! If Jesus instructed His own to "watch and pray," shouldn't we be watching and praying?????
How much watching and praying is enough? We will know it is enough when we see temporal promises fulfilled and then our eternal Savior coming in the clouds!
How long then, will we wait then before we watch and pray? How long will we wait until we see God's promises on earth so that we might be prepared for God's promises in heaven?
We must have a role in this or Jesus would not have instructed us to watch and pray!
It is worth considering, right?
Father, I know, for myself, I need to watch and pray more. I don't want to wait any longer to move into that which You have promised!
