More Than Ritual

“You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place the LORD your God chooses for his name to be honored—and eat it there in his presence. This applies to your tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. Doing this will teach you always to fear the LORD your God. [Deuteronomy 14.22-23]

Is it just me, or does it seem that the tithe is not only something brought and given, but also something brought and eaten?

It sounds like the tithe includes eating in a certain place for a certain reason.

There is something to be said for "setting aside" - for making special provision of time and effort - to do the LORD's bidding. It is called devotion.

Devotion makes us different. It should.

Father, help me to see that my devotion means more than just ritual.
