“If someone has committed a crime worthy of death and is executed and hung on a tree, the body must not remain hanging from the tree overnight. You must bury the body that same day, for anyone who is hung is cursed in the sight of God. In this way, you will prevent the defilement of the land the LORD your God is giving you as your special possession. [Deuteronomy 21.22-23]
To be hung on a tree is to be cursed by God.
Jesus was hung (by nails) on a tree (cross made of wood).
Part of me wants to be all emotional and sad about this, thinking about God giving His only Son to die for the sin of the world. But another part of me wants to rejoice and be grateful because, first, God would do this, and secondly because God knew Jesus would rise from the dead and redemption of God's created "man" would be complete. It strikes me that God had faith Jesus would rise again.
Interesting!
Father, thank You that Jesus suffered the curse that belonged to me. And, thank You that Jesus rose from the tomb to set me free.
