Sin Is Sin

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. This is how you are to deal with those who sin unintentionally by doing anything that violates one of the LORD’s commands. [Leviticus 4.1-2]

I went through today's OYCB reading paying attention to the description of unintentional versus intentional sins requiring a sacrifice or offering. Most of what I read today dealt with unintentional sins. However, chapter 6 seems to deal with intentional sins and describes what those violations might look like: cheating, stealing, committing fraud, or lying.

I don't get the idea that chapter 6 is an exhaustive list of intentional sins requiring a guilt offering, but I will be paying attention as the days go on and more of this topic is discussed.

The thing that really stands out to me at this moment is that if unintentional sins require so much protocol, it would seem logical that intentional sins would require even more protocol... But then that would be a complete misunderstanding of holiness.

Intentional or unintentional sins have one thing in common, they are both sin. Holiness allows for no sin whatsoever - it matters not whether the sinner willingly participates or not. Sin is sin and requires a sacrificial offering to God for forgiveness.

I am thinking at the point that Jesus will be on my mind a lot over the next few days of reading this potion of the Bible!

Father, I am grateful for Jesus. Help me to be mindful over the days following, as I read more about the sacrifices and offerings required for sin, tp look for and see Jesus!
